In a 2013 Nielson study in the United States, Latinas said they were primary or joint decision makers in the household, giving input in categories such as grocery shopping, insurance, financial services, electronics, and family care. Additionally, the Latina population is increasingly becoming “primary wage earners and influencers” in the modern Hispanic United States Household. In the United States, female employment has become an increasingly important determinant of family economic well-being, especially among disadvantaged populations such as Latinas.
Instead, they were given special instructions for reporting the race of interracial persons. A person with both white and black ancestry (termed “blood”) was to be recorded as “Negro,” no matter the fraction of that lineage (the “one-drop rule”). Driven largely by the War on Drugs, women of color, particularly black and Latina women, comprise the fastest-growing sector of the prison population. In the last 20 years, thenumber of womenincarcerated increased at a rate almost double that of men, with Latina women being 69% more likely to be incarcerated than white women. Although feminists regularly cite the gender wage gap as a scourge holding back women in the workplace, in fact for Latinas, the gap is much worse. In California, the state with the largest Latino population, the number of hate crimes against Latinos almost doubled. Hispanic and Latinos are racially diverse, although different “races” are usually the majority of each Hispanic group. Latina women experienced higher rates of human papillomavirus, or HPV, than white women as of 2010 and twice the death rate from cervical cancer. Seventeen percent of Latina women receive Medicaid, compared to 9 percent for white women. Hypertension is slightly less prevalent among Latina women, at 29 percent, than among white women, at 31 percent. Latinas are a growing and influential constituency in the United States.

Mora and Alberto Dávila find that Latina workers are paid 67 percent on the white non-Hispanic male dollar . Accounting for immigrant status, the pay penalty improves slightly to 30 percent and is wider among first generation immigrants than second or third or higher generation .
